CAMPERS have never had it better. In today’s new breed of caravan parks, heated indoor swimming pools, spas, mini-theatres, licensed restaurants and conference rooms are the norm.

Camping and caravanning has reached a new level: it no longer means roughing it.

These resort-style parks, often set in landscaped gardens, offer everything from $20-a-night campsites to $300-plus luxury villas.

Campers need not even venture outside the resort. Operators are going for the one-stop concept, with many facilities and entertainment available on-site. And these parks are attracting a new range of campers.

“We have judges and solicitors, we would never have seen those people at a caravan park 20 years ago,” New South Wales caravan park owner Ian Beadel says.

“These people are finding it is meeting their needs.”

Beadel also runs Australia’s, possibly the world’s, only caravan park training school.
